DAY 1
Flight to Costa Rica
Touch down in San Jose, Costa Rica! After clearing customs, you’ll meet your Full-time EFCB Tour Guide and the rest of your group. Did you know that Costa Rica is the only country without an army of any kind?
Day 2
Visit to INBioparque
Visit to INBioparque
Take in the diverse flora and fauna at this theme park and research station created by the National Institute of Biodiversity. Check out tarantulas, frogs, butterflies and much more. Explore the plant life in the lagoon and admire the butterfly garden. On the way out, stop by the Ecological Tourism Office and learn more about Costa Rica's protected land areas.

Enjoy a scenic 22-mile drive overlooking the Central Valley en route to Poas. The Poas Volcano has one of the largest craters in the world. Take a short hike uphill for the incredible views of the jewel-like Botos Lake. Later, relax in nearby hot springs naturally heated by volcanoes.
Arrival in Arenal region
Continue across the central valley to Arenal. Did you know this area is one of the world's major coffee producers?

Take an adventure to remember as you kayak on Lake Arenal. Spectacular scenery surrounds you, including mountains, windmills and the looming Arenal Volcano.

Visit to La Fortuna Waterfall
One of Costa Rica's most stunning waterfalls, La Fortuna is deep in the thick jungle of the Arenal rain forest. Keep your eyes open for wildlife as you make your way to the top of the waterfall. Time permitting, you'll also take the breathtaking climb down to the waterfall's base.

Transfer to Monteverde
Drive through mountainous scenery to the Monteverde Reserve. In 1972 this area became the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a private non-profit reserve with six distinct ecological zones chock full of exotic flora and fauna.

Stop at a local school in Monteverde, and meet some Costa Rican students.

Opt to take a two-and-a-half-hour trip on horseback. On the way, see what local schools are like when you meet Costa Rican students and sample some homemade refreshments. Afterwards, the bus will meet you and take you back to your hotel.

Half-day at Santa Elena Cloud Forest
This forest is constantly covered in a soft mist, making for some otherworldly plant life. The cloud forest averages twelve feet of rain annually! Look for bromeliads, orchids, and brightly colored quetzals, and even plant a tree—your grandchildren will appreciate the oxygen!

Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime chance to hang out on the tops of the trees. Thrilling zip lines are your path through the roof of the rain forest.
Day 6

Transfer via Carara Reserve
Follow the coastline south to the Carara Reserve, a national park with some extremely rare wildlife. Be on the lookout for scarlet macaws, boat-billed herons, motmots and roseate spoonbills among the lush vines and ancient trees that make up the dense jungle.

Transfer to the Puntarenas region
Continue on to the magnificent coastal region. Its sandy beaches and lush rain forests attract travelers from all over the world.
DAY 7

Excursion to Manuel Antonio National Park
Travel along the shoreline to Manuel Antonio National Park, and experience its rich vegetation and white sandy beaches. This beautiful 716-acre park is home to the squirrel monkey and the two-toed sloth.
DAY 8

Sarchi
Transfer via Sarchi
On the way back to San Jose stop in Sarchi, well-known for its brightly painted designs and colorful oxcart wheels.
DAY 9
Whitewater rafting
Whitewater rafting
Brave the rapids on a thrilling ride down the Sarapiqui River.
Farewell drink
Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) over a farewell drink with the group.
